Will Brackett, Co-owner

Will Brackett head shotWill Brackett (47) co-founded My Mineral Rights in 2016. Prior to assuming his current position, Brackett served as Managing Editor of the Powell Shale Digest for over eight years, beginning in 2007. During its existence, the weekly newsletter was a widely read and respected industry source for current news and research analysis on oil and gas development in the major shale plays. The newsletter, founded by the late Michael E. (Gene) Powell, Jr., began covering the Barnett Shale back in 2003 and eventually expanded to chronicle the rapid development of shale oil and gas across the United States and even abroad.

In his capacity with the Powell Shale Digest, Brackett also worked to promote shale development, including traveling to Northeast Pennsylvania to testify before a state Senate subcommittee hearing on the development of the then-emerging Marcellus Shale back in 2008. Brackett has also participated in numerous policy discussions on the oil and gas industry, including serving as a panelist at a symposium hosted by the George W. Bush Institute at Southern Methodist University and the Energy Roundtable events hosted by international law firm Fulbright & Jaworski, LLP (now Norton Rose Fulbright).

Brackett has also taken an interest in energy education and programs to train a new generation of employees for the oil and gas industry, working with and promoting the Energy Institute at Texas Christian University, and the petroleum technology programs at Navarro College and North Central Texas College.

Brackett is a native of Fort Worth, Texas, where his family has been involved in the oil and gas industry for about a century, going back to the founding of the legendary drilling contractor Loffland Brothers by his great-grandfather and great-uncle. In addition to his duties with My Mineral Rights, Brackett is also an active partner in his family’s oil and gas business, Trail’s End Resources, LLC, which invests in working interests and holds royalty interest positions in Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico.

Prior to joining the Powell Shale Digest in 2007, Brackett owned and operated his own successful Information Technology business for eight years consulting primarily to oil and gas companies, engineers and attorneys. He has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree (1998) from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas and a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree in Finance (1993) from the University of Texas at Arlington. He also attended Austin College in Sherman, Texas.

He is a member of the Fort Worth Club, where he is a regular for morning workouts, and enjoys running and cycling as well. Will enjoys fly fishing and is a history buff. He is an active member of Church of Christ the King & All Saints’ in Fort Worth, where he recently served a term on the church’s vestry board.
